Hands-On Health is a mobile health and education service that provides hands-on experiences in nontraditional settings to address barriers to access to healthcare and education in under-resourced populations of Cleveland, Ohio.
Our passionate team of diverse health professionals and educators conveniently bring the Wealthy Heart and Health Science Lab programs directly to where residents of Cleveland, Ohio, work, learn, worship, and spend leisure time in efforts to address social determinants of health that negatively impact our communities. We are on a mission to encourage and strengthen under-resourced communities to live at their highest potential through hands-on heart health education and nutrition.
Our goal is to strengthen the communities of Cleveland as a whole by providing tools that build knowledge of healthier lifestyles to help reduce the risk of generational health disparities that lead to heart disease, the leading cause of death in the United States. We take an extra step with the younger generation to address the equality and equity gap in careers in healthcare by providing students with hands-on experiences that encourage the attainment of higher education with an emphasis on STEM/healthcare.
The Wealthy Heart program is a series of hands-on heart health sessions that provide participants with healthy alternative meals and physical activity options in exchange for blood pressure and glucose readings during convenient mobile health screenings and education. It’s never too early to take charge of your health.
The Health Science Labs are evidence-based, interactive workshops designed to increase interest in healthier lifestyle habits and higher education in STEM / healthcare-related fields. Students will also engage in social-emotional learning and creative writing activities for reflection after each lab.
